Quiet hours and resend if no response

Last updated: Aug 24, 2026

Every automation in Dispatch Bros has two politeness controls. Quiet Hours define a nightly window when no automated text may send — anything that comes due inside it is held and delivered after the window ends. Resend if no response adds automatic follow-ups on customer automations (review requests, confirmations, reminders) that keep gently nudging until the customer acts or a maximum is reached. Both live in each workflow's editor at Automations → Workflows → Configure.

Quiet hours

  1. Open the automation's editor. The Quiet Hours panel is on the right, with the note: "Messages will not send during quiet hours and will be rescheduled."
  2. Set the Start and End times — for example 9:00 PM to 8:00 AM.
  3. The panel's Timezone field is read-only: "Quiet hours use the company time zone from Settings → General." Change your company time zone there, and every workflow follows (set your time zone).

A message deferred by quiet hours shows in the Runs tab with the reason "Deferred (quiet hours)" — it was rescheduled, not lost.

Resend if no response

Customer automations show a Resend if no response section below the message template. (Team workflows have a sibling called Repeat while still in progress that nags your team while a job stays in one status.)

  1. Check "Send a reminder if the customer doesn't respond".
  2. Pick the timing mode:
    • Send every set interval — a fixed cadence, using the Repeat every number-and-unit control (minutes, hours, or days).
    • Send at a specific time in the customer's local time — each follow-up fires at that clock time on the customer's own clock (today if it hasn't passed yet, otherwise the next day).
  3. Set the Maximum total requests per job. The count includes the original: "Includes the first request. 3 = the original request plus at most 2 reminders." Customer chains allow 2–10; team status loops allow up to 48.
  4. Optionally write a Follow-up message — a different, softer body for the reminders, with the same placeholder chips and preview as the main template. "Leave empty to resend the original message."
  5. Press Save Changes.

When the chain stops

For customer automations the editor spells it out: it stops automatically the moment the customer replies, clicks the review link, or texts STOP — and if the job is reopened or cancelled. "Quiet hours still apply to every reminder." Team repeat loops stop when the job status changes, the job is completed or cancelled, or the recipient becomes invalid.

Troubleshooting

  • "Repeat interval must be at least 1 minute when repeat is on." — the interval field is empty or zero. Enter a real cadence before saving.
  • Saving rejects a maximum of 1 — by design. 1 means "the original only, no resends," which would silently disable the toggle you just turned on. Use at least 2.
  • A reminder shows "Customer replied — stopped" in the Runs tab — that's success, not an error: the customer answered, so the chain ended and the conversation is now yours in Messages.
  • Reminders bunch up in the morning — expected when your quiet window covers the night: everything deferred overnight releases once the window ends.
  • The Resend section doesn't appear on an automation — not every workflow supports it. The missed-call text-back, for example, sends once per missed call and has no resend chain.

FAQ

What happens to a message that comes due during quiet hours?

It is rescheduled, not dropped — the engine holds it and sends after the quiet window ends. In the Runs tab it shows the reason 'Deferred (quiet hours)'.

Whose time zone do quiet hours use?

Your company time zone from Settings → General. The resend option 'Send at a specific time' is different — that one fires in each customer's own local time zone.

Why won't it let me set the maximum to 1?

The count includes the first send, so 1 would mean the original message only with zero resends — which silently disables the feature you just turned on. The minimum is 2.

What stops a resend chain?

For customer automations: the customer replying, clicking the review link, or texting STOP — and the job being reopened or cancelled. Quiet hours still apply to every reminder.
