Forward calls to a cell phone or teammate (Forward Call node)

Last updated: Aug 24, 2026

The Forward Call node sends an incoming call to a single destination: any outside phone number (your cell, an answering service) or a specific dispatcher on your team. You set how long it rings with Timeout (seconds), and you can wire a next step — usually voicemail — that catches the call when nobody answers. It's the simplest way to get business calls onto a phone that isn't running Dispatch Bros.

Before you start

  • You need a call flow — see create a call flow.
  • To forward to a teammate, that person must already exist as an owner, admin, or dispatcher on your team.

Step 1 — Add the Forward Call node

  1. Open your flow in Phone System → Call Flows.
  2. Drag Forward Call from the Node Palette onto the canvas and click it to open its settings.

Step 2 — Pick the destination

The Forward To toggle offers two modes:

  • Phone Number — enter any phone number (the field shows the format +15551234567). Calls forward there; this works for cell phones, landlines, and answering services.
  • Dispatcher — pick a teammate from the dropdown (it starts on "Select dispatcher…"). If the list is empty you'll see "No dispatchers found. Add team members first." — add the person under Team first.

Step 3 — Set the ring timeout

Timeout (seconds) controls how long the destination rings before the flow gives up — from 5 to 120 seconds (30 is the default). Keep it shorter than your personal voicemail's pickup time if you're forwarding to a cell and want unanswered calls back in the flow.

Step 4 — Decide what happens on no answer

A Forward Call node is allowed to be the last step — if nothing is wired after it, the call ends when the forward fails. To catch missed calls instead, drag a line from the bottom of the Forward Call node to a Voicemail node (or any other step). The Routing preview panel shows the exact path.

Press Publish when done.

Troubleshooting

  • Publish blocked with "no forwarding phone number set." — the node is in Phone Number mode but the number field is empty. Enter the destination number.
  • Publish blocked with "no dispatcher selected." — the node is in Dispatcher mode with nobody picked. Choose a teammate or switch to Phone Number.
  • My personal voicemail answers instead of the business voicemail — your carrier's voicemail beat the flow's timeout. Lower Timeout (seconds) on the Forward Call node so the flow moves to its next step first.
  • Callers report the line just ends — nothing is wired after the Forward Call node, so an unanswered forward ends the call. Wire a Voicemail node after it.

FAQ

Can I forward business calls to my personal cell phone?

Yes. Add a Forward Call node, keep Forward To on Phone Number, and enter your cell number. The caller never sees that it forwarded.

What is the difference between Forward Call and Ring Group?

Forward Call sends the call to ONE destination — an outside phone number or one dispatcher. Ring Group rings several team members' Dispatch Bros apps at once and the first to answer takes the call.

What happens if nobody answers the forwarded call?

After the Timeout (seconds) you set, the call continues to the next node wired after the Forward Call node — typically Voicemail. If nothing is wired after it, the call ends.

Why does my cell phone voicemail pick up business calls?

If your personal carrier voicemail answers faster than your Timeout, the carrier voicemail captures the call before the flow can move on. Shorten the Timeout so the flow reaches your Dispatch Bros Voicemail node first.
