Accept Zelle or Venmo deposits (P2P payments)
Last updated: Aug 24, 2026
Dispatch Bros can offer Zelle, Venmo, and Cash App as deposit payment options on your estimates (and invoices). You add your handles once in settings; each method then appears on the customer's payment page with your details and a copy button. Because P2P transfers can't be verified automatically, the customer's payment is filed as a report — nothing is recorded as paid until you confirm the money actually arrived.
Before you start
- You need owner or admin access to edit invoice settings.
- P2P methods work with or without Stripe — a business that never connects a card processor can still collect deposits this way.
Step 1 — Add your payment handles
- Open your invoice settings (from the Invoices area).
- Find the Zelle / Venmo / Cash App section. As it explains, each method appears on the payment page only when its detail is filled in.
- Enter any of:
- Zelle (email or phone) — the email or phone number tied to your Zelle account,
- your Venmo username,
- your Cash App cashtag.
- Save. Leave a field blank to not offer that method.
Per-source overrides are also supported: a job source can carry its own Zelle/Venmo/Cash App destinations on its identity editor, which win over the company defaults for documents sent under that source.
Step 2 — The customer pays and reports it
On an approved estimate with a deposit due, the customer's Pay tab shows a method chooser — Card plus a chip for each P2P method you configured. When they pick a P2P method, the panel shows:
- the amount and your handle, with a Copy button,
- an app link for Venmo or Cash App that opens the payment pre-addressed,
- an "I've sent the payment" button.
After sending the money in their own app, the customer taps the button and sees "Payment reported", plus the note: "The business confirms your payment on their side before the deposit is recorded."
Step 3 — Confirm (or dismiss) the report
Back in Dispatch Bros, the estimate page shows a blue banner: the customer says they sent the deposit, naming the amount and the method. Check your bank or payment app first, then:
- Confirm payment received — records the deposit and converts the estimate to an invoice (or, when the estimate belongs to a project, bills the deposit as the project's first milestone invoice). You're then offered Send invoice to email the customer their invoice.
- Dismiss — clears the report without recording anything. Use this when the money never arrived or the report was a mistake.
What your customer sees
The customer never sees your bank details beyond the handle you chose to publish. Their page shows exactly one state at a time: the payment panel before they report, and the "Payment reported" confirmation after — with the clear note that the business confirms it on their side. Once you confirm, the estimate becomes an invoice showing the deposit as paid.
Troubleshooting
- The Zelle/Venmo/Cash App chips don't show on the customer page — the matching handle is blank in settings (and in the job source's override). Fill it in and the method appears on future opens of the page.
- The customer reported a payment you never received — don't confirm. Dismiss clears the claim; nothing was ever recorded.
- You confirmed by mistake — confirming records a real payment on the converted invoice. Handle it like any other payment correction — see refunds.
- The buttons to confirm are missing — confirming requires permission to edit estimates and create invoices; a technician login won't see them.
FAQ
Where do I add my Zelle or Venmo details?
In your invoice settings, under the Zelle / Venmo / Cash App section. Each method appears on the customer payment page only when its detail is filled in. You can also set per-source overrides on each job source.
Does a Zelle payment mark the estimate paid automatically?
No. Zelle, Venmo, and Cash App transfers can't be verified automatically. The customer files an 'I've sent the payment' report, and nothing counts as paid until you confirm you received the money.
What if the customer says they paid but nothing arrived?
Use Dismiss on the reported-payment banner. Dismissing clears the report without recording any payment — the estimate stays approved and unpaid.
Are there processing fees on Zelle or Venmo deposits?
Dispatch Bros adds no fee on P2P payments — the money moves directly between the customer's app and yours. Card service fees only apply to card payments.
