Read the Calendar: technician lanes and day view

The Calendar's Day view has two ways to read the same day: the classic timeline grid, and a technician-lane mode that gives every tech one horizontal row with their jobs in time order. Lanes answer the dispatch questions fast — who's free, who's slammed, which jobs have no tech — with a load bar per technician, late/overtime warnings, and a red Unassigned lane at the bottom. Switch between the two with the lane toggle button that appears next to the view pills on Day view.

Before you start

• Lane mode exists only on Day view — the toggle disappears on Week and Month.
• The risk badges on job cards (LATE, buffer minutes, cascade chains) come from the AI Dispatch Scan; without a scan you still get lanes, counts, and times.

Step 1 — Open Day view

1. Click Calendar in the left sidebar.
2. Pick Day from the view pills. Use the arrows or Today to move between days.
3. The color pills switch event coloring: By Type uses each job type's color, By Tech uses a stable color per technician.

Step 2 — Switch to lanes

Click the lane toggle button (columns icon) next to the view pills — its tooltip reads "Switch to lane view". Click it again ("Switch to timeline view") to return to the grid.

Reading a technician's lane

Each lane header shows, left to right:

• The technician's name and their job count for the day.
• A load bar — the fill is their day's utilization, and its color moves from normal (green) toward red as the load grows.
• Warnings when the scan data flags them: a late-jobs count, an Overtime risk flag, or Overloaded when the day simply doesn't fit.

Inside the lane, each job card shows the job number, status badge, customer, arrival window, and job type. When scan data is loaded, cards gain risk badges:

• LATE — the schedule already makes this job late.
• A buffer badge (e.g. "12m buffer") — how much slack exists before this job would slip; under 5 minutes it turns red.
• chain — this job is part of a cascade: one delay knocks over the jobs behind it.

A technician with nothing booked shows "No jobs scheduled" in their lane, so idle capacity is just as visible as overload.

The Unassigned lane

Jobs with no technician collect in a red Unassigned lane at the bottom. Click a card to open the job and assign someone — or switch back to the timeline and drag it onto a time when a tech frees up (rescheduling works the same in both modes).

Filters still apply

The toolbar filters — search, All Statuses, All Technicians, All Job Types — narrow what the lanes show. Filtering to a single technician on Day view also unlocks the route optimizer for that tech (optimize a technician's day).

Troubleshooting

• "No jobs scheduled for this day" — nothing is booked on the selected date with the current filters. Check the date and clear filters.
• The lane toggle isn't there — you're on Week or Month view. Lanes are a Day-view mode.
• No LATE/buffer/chain badges — run the AI Dispatch Scan on the day; those signals are computed by the scan, not by the raw schedule.
• Cancelled jobs are missing — by design: Day-view lanes and counts exclude cancelled jobs.
