Port your existing business number into Dispatch Bros
Last updated: Aug 24, 2026
Porting moves your existing business number from your current carrier into Dispatch Bros — you keep the number your customers already know. Start it in Phone System → Port Numbers with the Port a number you already have button. The wizard walks six steps — Numbers, Account, Address, Documents, Date, Review — and your number keeps working at your current carrier until the switch-over day.
Before you start
Gather these from your current provider — mismatches are the top reason ports get rejected:
- Your account number with your current carrier (from your latest bill).
- Your port-out PIN / transfer PIN — a security code your provider gives you when you ask to port out. It's not on your bill; call them and request it.
- A recent bill (PDF or screenshot, dated within the last 30 days).
- The service address your carrier has on file.
- An active Dispatch Bros phone plan (without one, the tab shows "Choose a phone plan to port numbers in").
Step 1 — Numbers
- Open Phone System → Port Numbers and click Port a number you already have.
- Under Number to port, type each number and click Add — or click Import from Excel to pull numbers from any column of an .xlsx or .csv file. You can port up to 20 numbers at a time.
- Click Check portability. Each number shows Portable or "Can't be ported" (non-geographic or disconnected numbers can't move; you can drop them and continue with the rest).
Step 2 — Account
Everything here must match your current carrier's records exactly:
- Current provider — who the number is with today (picking "Other" is fine; the real carrier is detected from the number).
- Account number — from your latest bill. This is not your email or Dispatch Bros login.
- Port-out PIN / passcode — if you truly have none, the wizard warns "Most ports are rejected without a PIN." and makes you explicitly confirm your provider has no PIN on the account.
- Authorized account-holder name, Business name (if any), and the Billing telephone number.
Step 3 — Address
Enter the service address your current carrier has on file — not necessarily your billing address or new business address. Fill Street address, optional Suite / unit (optional), City, State, ZIP. An address mismatch is the #1 reason ports get rejected.
Step 4 — Documents
Two documents authorize the transfer:
- Recent bill or invoice — a statement dated within the last 30 days; a PDF or screenshot of the online bill works.
- Letter of Authorization (LOA) — click Download pre-filled LOA, have the authorized account holder sign and date it (within the last 90 days), then upload it as the Signed LOA. Porting a toll-free number? The LOA must include the text "Port to RespOrg QIT02" — the pre-filled one handles this.
Step 5 — Date
"Do not cancel your current phone service yet." Your old service must stay active until the port finishes. Pick a Requested switch-over date (at least 3 days out). Your current carrier has the final say and confirms the actual date after submission.
Step 6 — Review and send
Check every line (each row has an Edit link), tick the authorization checkbox, and click Send for review. The Dispatch Bros team reviews the details and submits the port to your carrier — your number keeps working exactly as it does today, and you can track every stage under Number ports on the Port Numbers tab.
Troubleshooting
- Need to stop midway? Close the wizard — you'll see "Save and finish later?" and can pick up where you left off with Resume your port. Use Start over to discard a draft instead.
- "Enter a valid US phone number." — numbers must be US 10-digit; re-check the digits you typed.
- A number shows "Can't be ported" — it may be non-geographic or already disconnected. Remove it and continue with the rest, or contact your current carrier about its status.
- Port rejected after submission — the status view shows exactly what the carrier flagged and offers a fix-and-resubmit flow. See Port order status, LOA upload, and carrier comments.
FAQ
Will my number stop working during the port?
No. Your number keeps ringing at your current carrier the whole time — nothing changes for your customers until the day it switches over.
When can I cancel my old phone service?
Only after Dispatch Bros shows the number as Live. Cancelling early can cause the number to be lost and the port to fail — the app tells you the moment it's safe.
What is a port-out PIN and where do I get it?
A security code your current provider generates when you ask to port out (also called a transfer PIN). It is not printed on your bill — call your provider and request it. Most rejected ports are missing this PIN.
How many numbers can I port at once?
Up to 20 numbers per port request. You can also import them from an Excel or CSV file instead of typing each one.
How long does porting take?
Usually a few business days. Your current carrier has the final say on the actual switch-over date and confirms it after submission.
