Track Ad Sources separately from Job Sources
Last updated: Aug 24, 2026
Ad Sources are labels for your marketing campaigns and channels — the page's own subtitle is "Track which marketing campaigns and channels produced each lead." They sit alongside Job Sources as a second, optional tag on a job: the Job Source says which brand or line the job came in on, the Ad Source says which campaign drove it there. Unlike Job Sources, Ad Sources never change app behavior — no sender numbers, no review links — they exist purely so your reports can compare campaigns.
Before you start
- Understand the Job Source vs Ad Source split first — most companies only need Ad Sources once they run several campaigns inside the same lead channel.
- You need a role with ad source create permission (owner or admin by default) to see the Add Ad Source button.
Step 1 — Create an Ad Source
- Click Ad Source in the left sidebar. The page is titled Ad Sources.
- Click Add Ad Source (or Add Your First Ad Source on the empty page, which otherwise reads "No ad sources found.").
- In the drawer, give the campaign a name, an optional description, and pick a color, then save. The colored pill on the card previews how the label will look.
Step 2 — Tag jobs with it
When creating or editing a job, set its ad source alongside the job source. From then on the job carries both labels, and reports can slice by either.
Step 3 — Manage the list
Hover a card to reveal its actions:
- Edit (pencil) — rename, recolor, or update the description.
- Deactivate — hides the campaign from dropdowns and moves it to the Inactive section; jobs keep their label. Click Reactivate to restore it — useful for seasonal campaigns.
- Delete — a preflight check runs first and the confirmation tells you the impact, e.g. how many "job(s) will lose their ad source label." If nothing references it, the message ends with "Safe to delete." Deleting cannot be undone.
You can also select multiple cards with their checkboxes (or Select All) and delete them together — the combined impact is shown before anything is removed.
Troubleshooting
- The Add Ad Source button is missing — your role lacks ad source create permission. Ask an owner or admin.
- A campaign is missing from job dropdowns — it was deactivated. Find it in the Inactive section and click Reactivate.
- Bulk delete partially failed — the error banner counts failures, e.g. "1 of 3 ad source(s) failed to delete." Retry the remaining ones individually to see the specific error.
- "Failed to check impact. Please try again." — the delete preflight couldn't run (usually a connection hiccup). Try the delete again.
FAQ
Do Ad Sources affect which number my texts send from?
No. Sender numbers, review links, and smart links belong to Job Sources. Ad Sources are reporting labels only.
When should I use an Ad Source instead of another Job Source?
Use a Job Source per brand or lead line (Google, Yelp, referral). Use Ad Sources to compare campaigns inside those lines — for example two different Google Ads campaigns feeding the same Google line.
Can I delete an Ad Source that jobs are using?
Yes, after a warning — Dispatch Bros first tells you how many jobs will lose their ad source label, and asks you to confirm. Deactivating is the safer option if you just want it out of dropdowns.
Do inactive ad sources lose their history?
No. Deactivating only hides the source from dropdowns; existing jobs keep the label, and you can reactivate it any time.
