Assign a Sender Number to each job source

A Sender Number is the default outgoing phone number for a job source: when an automation (like a job confirmation or review request) texts a customer whose job is tagged with that source, the message sends from that number. You assign it in Automations → Sender Numbers — one row per source, with a searchable number picker. Sources without one show "Fallback to primary" and text from your company primary number.

Before you start

• You need at least one phone number in Dispatch Bros (buy a number) and it must be SMS-ready — numbers still finishing carrier verification appear in the picker but are grayed out until they're ready.
• You need at least one active job source (create one).

Step 1 — Open Sender Numbers

1. Click Automations in the left sidebar, then open the Sender Numbers tab.
2. You'll see a table with columns Job Source, Sender Number, SMS Status, and Review Link. If any sources still need a number, a blue chip at the top counts them (for example "3 sources missing sender") — click it to filter the table down to just those.

Step 2 — Pick a number for the source

1. Find the source's row (use the search box — "Search source or number..." — to filter by source name, number digits, or a number's business name).
2. Click the picker in the Sender Number column (it reads "No number assigned" when empty) and choose a number. You can type part of the number or its name to narrow the list. Your primary line is marked "(Primary)".
3. The save is instant — you'll see the "Sender number updated" toast. The SMS Status column now shows that number's live status chip: Ready (green) means it can send.

Numbers that aren't SMS-ready yet are visible but disabled in the picker, with their current status as the hint — Dispatch Bros never lets you assign a number that can't actually send.

Step 3 — Repeat for every source

Work through the table until the missing-sender chip disappears — when every source has a number, the filter clears itself and the full table shows with every source assigned. You can drag rows by the grip handle to reorder the table (the tooltip says "Drag to reorder"); the source you touched last moves to the top automatically.

How automations use it

When an automation's sender strategy is set to Source Default, the help popover in the table header explains the rule: "Assign a default sender phone number to each job source." Troubleshooting

• The number I want is grayed out — its SMS status isn't Ready. Fresh purchases and unverified toll-free numbers stay disabled (showing their live status) until carrier registration completes. Check SMS-ready status.
• The assigned number's picker is highlighted in gold — the number was ready when assigned but isn't fully ready now (its status chip shows Pending or a red error). Hover a red chip to see the error text, and check the number in Phone System.
• A source is missing from the table — the tab lists active job sources only. If the table is empty you'll see "No active job sources found." — reactivate or create a source first.
• Search finds nothing — the table shows "No sources match your search." Clear the search box; note the missing-sender chip filter may also be narrowing the list.
