Track referral companies and their fees

Last updated: Aug 24, 2026

Referral companies are the outside businesses that send you work for a cut — answering services, partner shops, lead networks. You manage them under TeamReferral Co.: add each company once with its default referral rate, and when you close a job that came from them, Dispatch Bros pre-fills that rate and calculates their payout as part of the close-job math.

Before you start

  • You need permission to manage the team roster — owner and admin have it by default (roles explained).
  • To see the referral section on the close-job screen, referral split must be enabled for your company.

Step 1 — Add a referral company

  1. Click Team in the left sidebar, then Referral Co..
  2. Click Add Company. An empty list shows "No referral companies yet." with an Add Your First Referral Company button.
  3. Fill in the Add Referral Company drawer:
    • Company Name — required.
    • Phone and Email — optional contact details.
    • Default Referral Rate % — required; the hint explains it's the "Default percentage paid to this company for referrals".
  4. Click Add Company to save.

Step 2 — Attribute jobs to the referral company

When a job comes in from a referral partner, attribute it to them — either when creating the job or on the close screen. At close, the referral company picker pre-fills from the job's attribution, the company's default rate auto-fills, and you can adjust the rate for that specific job before saving. The referral payout is then part of the job's finance record alongside the technician payout and company share.

Step 3 — Manage the list

The table shows Name, Phone, Email, Default Rate %, and Status for every company:

  • The green Active / Inactive pill is a toggle — click it to flip the status. A toast confirms "Company deactivated" or "Company activated". Inactive companies stop appearing in referral dropdowns but keep their history.
  • The pencil opens Edit Referral Company, where you can change the name, contacts, and default rate, or flip Active. The drawer notes that inactive companies won't appear in referral dropdowns.
  • Changing the default rate affects future job closes only — rates already saved on closed jobs don't change.

Troubleshooting

  • "Company name is required" — the name field can't be empty; every other field except the rate is optional.
  • "Referral rate must be between 0 and 100" — enter a plain number in that range, without the percent sign.
  • The referral section is missing when closing a job — referral split isn't enabled for your company, or the list has no active companies to pick from.
  • A company is missing from the close-screen dropdown — check its status pill: inactive companies are hidden from dropdowns. Click the pill to reactivate.

FAQ

What is a referral company?

An outside business that sends you jobs for a percentage — an answering service, a partner shop, or a lead network. You track each one with its own default rate so their cut is calculated automatically at job close.

How is the referral fee calculated?

Each referral company has a default rate percent. When you close a job attributed to them, that rate pre-fills and the payout is calculated from the job's money — you can adjust the rate per job before saving.

Can I turn a referral company off without deleting it?

Yes — click the Active pill on their row to deactivate. Inactive companies stop appearing in referral dropdowns but keep their history.

Why don't I see a referral section when closing a job?

Referral split needs to be enabled for your company. Once it's on, the close screen shows the referral company picker, pre-filled from the job's attribution when one was set at creation.
