Send a payment request link by text
Last updated: Aug 24, 2026
A payment request link lets the customer pay on their own device instead of reading a card number to you. From the payment composer you choose Send a secure pay link, pick Text or Email, and Dispatch Bros delivers a link to the invoice's public page — where the customer sees the balance and pays by card (or Zelle / Venmo / Cash App when you offer them). Every send is recorded on the Payments Requests list so you always know what's outstanding.
Before you start
- Your Stripe account must be connected and approved for card payment (Stripe setup).
- The job needs an invoice with a public link — the link points at the invoice page. If there's no invoice yet, create one first.
- The customer record needs a mobile phone (for text) or an email address (for email).
Step 1 — Send the link
- Open the payment composer for the job — from the Collect surface on the Payments page, pick the job and click Collect.
- Instead of entering a card, choose Send a secure pay link ("Customer pays on their device").
- Pick the channel: Text or Email. The send goes to the phone or email on the customer's record.
The text message is sent from the phone number tied to the job's source, so it arrives from a number the customer recognizes.
Step 2 — Track your requests
- On the Payments page, open the Payment Requests list (the
?tab=requestsview). - Each row shows the customer, invoice number, amount, send date, and the channel icon (text or email).
- The badge tells you where it stands: Pending, Overdue, Paid (with the paid date), or Cancelled.
Step 3 — Resend when needed
For a Pending or Overdue request, click Resend on the row. Dispatch Bros re-sends on the same channel as the original send when possible, and falls back to whichever contact the customer still has.
What your customer sees
The link opens the invoice's public page in their browser: your company branding, the line items, and the balance due. They can add a tip (when tips are enabled), then pay by card — or use Zelle, Venmo, or Cash App buttons when the invoice offers them. After a card payment, the page confirms and your Payments ledger updates in real time.
Troubleshooting
- "Invoice has no public link. Please resend the invoice from the Invoices page." — the invoice was created but never issued a shareable link. Open it on the Invoices page and send it once; then the pay-link send works.
- The request never flips to Paid — the customer may have paid outside the link (cash, check, Zelle to your own account). Record that payment on the invoice manually; the request list follows the invoice.
- "No payment requests sent yet" — the list only records link sends. If you expected older history: sends from before the request audit was introduced live in the Activity Log, not here.
- Resend button is missing — resend only appears on Pending and Overdue rows that still have a job and a customer phone or email on file. Paid and cancelled requests can't be resent.
FAQ
Where does the payment link take my customer?
To the invoice's public page — the same page an emailed invoice opens. It shows the balance due and lets the customer pay by card (plus Zelle/Venmo/Cash App if configured).
Which phone number does the text come from?
The pay link is texted from the phone number assigned to the job's source, so the customer sees the same number your other messages for that job came from.
How do I see which requests were paid?
The Payments Requests list shows every send with a Pending, Overdue, Paid, or Cancelled badge, and Paid rows show the date the money came in.
Can a technician send a pay link?
Yes — any authenticated team member can send a payment link from the payment composer on a job. The money still goes to the company's Stripe account.
