Track technician tips
Last updated: Aug 24, 2026
The Tips report on the Payments page shows every tipped payment — who collected it, on which job, how much — with summary cards, a technician leaderboard, and a filterable table. Tips are credited to the team member who collected the payment, so it doubles as the payout sheet for handing tips through to your techs.
Before you start
- The Tips view rides its own permission (payment tips view). Owners see it by default; grant it to admins, dispatchers, or technicians in Settings → Roles & Permissions (roles guide).
- Technicians with the permission see their own tips only — no leaderboard, no other techs.
- Tips exist once customers can pay by card: connect Stripe first.
How customers leave tips
- On the invoice pay page: before card entry the customer sees "Say thanks with a tip" with preset options (including No tip and a custom amount) and the note "100% of your tip goes to the team." The tip rides on top of the balance — it never reduces what the invoice collects.
- In Quick Collect: the operator can click + Add tip and enter the tip the customer offers.
You can turn customer tipping off entirely in your invoice settings — the tip block then disappears from pay pages.
Reading the report
- Open Payments and go to the Tips view.
- Filter by technician (All Technicians by default), date range, and status (Succeeded only by default, or All statuses).
- The summary cards show Filtered Tips, Tipped Payments, Average Tip, and Top Technician for the whole filtered period.
- The Top technicians by tips leaderboard ranks your team — click a row to filter the table to that tech.
- The table lists each tipped payment: Date, Technician, Job / Payer, Tip, Payment Total, and Status, with a Total Tips footer pinned to the bottom.
Paying tips out
Dispatch Bros reports tips; it doesn't move them separately — tips arrive in your bank inside the normal payouts along with the payment they rode on. Use the leaderboard or a technician-filtered table over your pay period as the tip payout sheet.
Troubleshooting
- "No tips found" — no tipped charges match the current filters. Widen the date range, switch the status filter to All statuses, or clear the technician filter.
- A refunded payment still shows a tip — the status column shows Refunded / Partially refunded so you can exclude it. When refunding, the Refund the tip checkbox decides whether the tip went back (see refunds).
- A tech says a tip is missing — tips credit the person who COLLECTED the payment. If a dispatcher ran the charge for a tech's job, the tip shows under the dispatcher; use the Job / Payer column to trace it back to the job.
- "Failed to load tips" — a temporary load error; adjust a filter or reload the page to refetch.
FAQ
Who gets credited for a tip?
The team member who collected the payment. Tips on a card charge are credited to whoever ran the charge; tips a customer adds on an invoice pay page count into the totals too.
Can technicians see each other's tips?
No. A technician with tips access sees only their own tips — the server enforces it, and the leaderboard and technician filter are hidden for them.
Where do customers add tips?
On the public invoice pay page (tip presets appear before card entry) and in Quick Collect, where the operator can add a tip amount. You can turn customer tipping off in your invoice settings.
Why don't the summary cards match the table total?
The cards aggregate the FULL filtered set; the sticky Total Tips footer sums only the rows shown in the table. With very large date ranges the table is capped, so the two can differ — the cards are the complete number.
